HPS Library & Information Science students visited The National Science Library, NISCAIR and SAARC Documentation Centre

The students of Library & Information Science (LIS) of Hamdard Public School, Classes XI & XII visits The National Science LibraryNISCAIR and The SAARC Documentation Centre by the efforts of their subject teacher & Sr. Librarian Ms. Misbah and with the immense support of the respected principal madam. It was an educational tour for them as a part of their practical syllabus.

The National Science LibraryNISCAIR is a special kind of multistorey library dedicated to the field of Science & Technology. NSL has over 2,51,000 printed collection of S&T documents which includes monographs, bound volumes of journals, reports, theses/dissertations, standards, and patents etc. The students get amazed to see the huge and well organized collection of high end R&D reference sources, Indian S&T publications, foreign language dictionaries, library and information science, information & communication technology, computer science, conference proceedings, technical reports and other sources relevant to S&T community of the country.

In NSL, students not only get the practical knowledge of Acquisition, Cataloguing and Classification but also get the pragmatic approach to their Periodical system, OPAC,  Digital Library and a few specialized services provided by the NSL to their users.

Students also get the opportunity to visit the adjacent library of The SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) – SAARC Documentation Centre which nourished them with a clear vision of a well organised small library in a nutshell. SAARC Documentation Centre, established in the year 1994, is one of the Regional Centres of SAARC. It acts as an effective information system for the SAARC member states that enables exchange of information in the areas of biological, physical, chemical, engineering and life sciences as well as in developmental matters.

Ultimately, the educational tour of NSL and SAARC Documentation Centre was too much informational, pragmatic, enjoyable and nutritious for LIS students which too, enhanced more their interest in the subject.
